Who we are

Name: Nichola Welsh Chair of Governors

My name is Nichola Welsh and I am one of the parent governors at Colton Primary.  My eldest daughter started at the school in September and she has settled in very well thanks to all the hard work of the staff.

My professional background is in financial services. I worked in this industry for fifteen years across a number of different roles. I have experience in overseeing budgets and long term planning. I now run my own business teaching first aid to children, parents and childcare professionals.

I am looking forward to supporting the school and getting to know everyone. I have a vested interest in contributing to the school's future success for all.

Jonathan Brookes-Trust Governor

As a Trust governor my main aim is that the trust delivers real benefits for children and parents.
I am neither a parent or staff governor so I try and ensure decisions are made that are in the best interests and fairness to everyone. Having received a good education in Leeds myself I want to give something back to Leeds that will help this continue.

Caroline Johnson – Headteacher

My name is Caroline Johnson and I am the Head Teacher of Colton Primary School. I have taught for 25 years and I have been the Deputy Head of an ‘Outstanding School’ since 2005. I am an Advanced Skills Teacher and a Specialist Leader in Education; both positions have involved supporting teachers, senior leadership teams and head teachers with many aspects of school improvement.
Colton is a wonderful school where children are encouraged, supported and challenged to achieve their very best. The school works hard with all stakeholders to promote the highest possible outcomes for every pupil. Pastoral support, emotional well-being and resilience are promoted and valued alongside academic achievement.
As an outstanding school, the challenge is to keep moving forward and to be shaping the future of education, rather than following on behind. I want Colton to be leading the way with innovative, inspiring teaching which creates and develops inquisitive children who are fully engaged in their own learning journey.

Sally Hilton–  Vice Chair of Governors

As a parent of children at the school it has been a pleasure to watch them enjoy learning and develop new knowledge and skills. What and how they are learning often amazes me. I want every child, parent and guardians to feel positive about their time at Colton.

I feel I have a long term vested interest in ensuring Colton Primary is as good as it can be, not only for my kids but for all the children and staff.

I have been given the role as Pastoral Governor and this is giving me the opportunity to develop my skills and provide challenge in some key areas for the school.

Karen Weddle – Staff Governor

I am one of the Deputy Head teachers at Colton with responsibility for foundation stage, inclusion and special educational needs (SEN).

I began my teaching career many years ago at Colton as a newly qualified teacher. I left Colton to become an advisory teacher for ICT, working with many of the primary and secondary schools in Leeds. I then worked in a special school and in several inclusive partnerships in mainstream primary schools.

I completed my NPQH (National Qualification for Head Teachers) in 2006, just as the deputy head job was advertised at Colton. Having worked in so many schools I realised just how special Colton was and was delighted to be appointed Deputy Head in 2007.

I am proud of our achievements at Colton, both academically and pastorally. Having two young children myself, I know just how important it is for children to feel happy and safe at school. I lead the Investors In Pupils charter mark in school, which ensures pupils have a strong voice and are included in making important day to day decisions about how the school runs.
