Chair of Governors' Statement

Welcome to Colton Primary School

The governors of Colton Primary school meet on a regular basis to formulate our strategy, manage the school budget and have an oversight of school policies. We are all dedicated to supporting and challenging our head teacher Mrs Johnson and her leadership team to deliver the best possible outcomes for our children. As the expectations for national standards continue to rise we are proud to see that the excellent work done by our highly-motivated staff ensures that pupil results continue to improve.

In February, Mrs Johnson wrote to inform you of the governing body’s wish to investigate the Red Kite Learning Trust and the option of academisation. This decision has been taken by every member school of the Temple Newsam Learning Partnership. We are now in the formative stage of a due diligence process in which we will examine every aspect of the Red Kite Learning Trust and understand whether this option will be of benefit to Colton Primary School. I would like to assure you that no decisions will be made without consultation involving parents, carers, staff and children.

All schools nationally are facing extreme funding cuts and Colton is no exception to this, as a result we aim to ensure that we get the most out of additional funding that we have managed to acquire. Funding for physical education has been invested in new gym equipment for the main hall, bespoke PE training for our staff and a partnership with Leeds Rhinos in their partner school scheme. We hope this will have a positive impact on the fitness and wellbeing of our children.

The governing board also reviews pupil premium funding to ensure that it is spent well to provide maximum impact. Throughout this year, it is being used to help fund Teaching Assistant classroom support, 1-1 interventions and Mathletics.

The school continues to evolve and so too must the governing body, we will be reviewing our skills audit, our development plan and the views of our stakeholders on an ongoing basis. By prioritising time for self-evaluation and reviewing our past performance we will continue to provide the excellent governance needed for an outstanding primary school.

As a governing body, we are determined that the children of this school have the best possible education and leave us as articulate and informed individuals with a thirst for knowledge and a desire to succeed in their futures.

Thank you and Kind regards,

Ben Cole & Stephanie Selwood
